 قبل أقل من شهر على الانتخابات الرئاسية السورية التي ينظمها بشار الأسد ومؤيديه، أكدت قيادات كردية أنها لن تسمح بإجراء الانتخابات في المناطق الكردية، تزامنا مع أنباء عن توجه مسيحي لمقاطعة هذه الانتخابات احتجاجا على المادة الثالثة من الدستور السوري والتي تمنع المسيحيين من الترشح لمنصب الرئاسة.

ونقلت شبكة "ولاتي" الكردية عن القيادي في وحدات حماية الشعب محمود برخدان تأكيده أن أي انتخابات رئاسية لن تجرى في مناطق الأكراد.

وأشار إلى أن نظام الأسد لم يقدم أي شيء للشعب الكردي، ولذلك لن يسمحوا بأي مشروع للنظام في غربي كردستان.
